Angie Simpson, from the Baltimore Women's Classic 5K, presents a $5,000 check,
a portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Race, to Tom Barnett.

The Baltimore Women/s Classic is dedicated to promoting fitness and healthy living among all women while increasing awareness of women's health issues. Our guiding principle is the belief that athletic accomplishments are measured by healthy attitudes and by each woman reaching her own personal goals; not only by the quickest runners and winning race times. The race promotes a healthy spirit in our community where runners, volunteers and race organizers help women of all ages and abilities take strong steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

On January 20, 2007 a benefit was held for the Barnett Searing National Cancer  Foundation. Three local Salisbury bands, Continuum, The Permilla Project and Gravity House performed at the Island Way bar in Salisbury Maryland. Tickets  were $5 prior to the event and $7 at the door. The benefit raised $2400 for the foundation. The benefit was organized by Sarah Barnett, Dana Woods, Elisa Frank and with the help and donations of time of many friends.

It was a huge success and played to a packed house. The benefit's website is ...

Torrential rains couldn’t stop the dedication of those that came out to support the 2006 New Balance Jenny Smith Baltimore Women’s Classic 5k.  With nearly 900 runners, this year’s race was the best yet!

While the proceeds are still being calculated, with a 47% increase in participation over last year, the results are expected to be phenomenal.  The members of the Foundation are so touched by the fabulous support and determination that is shared by the many women in and around Baltimore who come together for this event each year.

The Foundation Board is currently in discussion on how to use this year’s proceeds, which will be used to help enrich the lives of those battling gynecologic cancer and their families.

New Year, New Venue, New Sponsor

Located just a few blocks from the old location, the Baltimore Museum of Industry provided a beautiful waterfront venue, not to mention a nice roof once the rain started!

New Balance was the Title Sponsor this year.  The first 750 women to register for the race received a New Balance tech running shirt, compliments of New Balance.  And that’s not all – as part of their centennial celebration, New Balance spotlights 50 races around the world, 25 of them being in the US.  This year’s race was chosen as one of the 25 races in the USA for this honor.

Caribbean Night Filled with Calypso Rhythms 2008

Fun and fundraising go hand in hand at the 6th Annual Caribbean Casino Night hosted by the Annapolis Parrot Head Club.  The event raised $7,000 for the Foundation, thanks to the generosity of our many friends and supporters.

“We’re thrilled that this event has been so successful,” says John E. Searing, co-chair for the Foundation.
“I think many of us that are affiliated with the Foundation would attend the event just because we always have such a good time. The fact that it benefits BSNCF just adds to our enjoyment”.

Some 250 guests danced to the rhythms of the Nautical Wheelers and Friends.  The casino was buzzing as guests tried to use their Caribbean Cash to bid on silent auction items throughout the course of the night. A great time was had by all!

The Foundation is planning a donation to the Red Devils to help further their expansion to the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  The Red Devils is a Maryland-based charitable organization inspired by the courage, grace and humor of two young women, Jessica Cowling and Ginny Schardt, who refused to be defined by their disease.  The Red Devils fund services to improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families.  For more information on the Red Devils, please visit their website at www.the-red-devils.org
