The Foundation’s purpose is to provide funding that will assist both cancer patients and their families. The Foundation hopes to enrich the lives of those battling cancer. As such, donations may take the form of technology, equipment, renovations, or furniture for treatment locations. From our personal experience, anything that can make the quality of one’s life with cancer a little better, easier or more comfortable is well worth it. Educational opportunities for those with cancer are also being investigated.

Of equal importance, is to provide funding for cancer related research with a special focus on gynecologic cancers. We are confident that the proceeds derived and distributed through the Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation will aid doctors, scientists and researchers of this country with necessary monetary support to discover the key to the cure.

All ages, sex and race are susceptible to cancer. Everyone will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, whether it is they, a relative, or a friend. In fact, two friends started this Foundation after watching their loved ones battle this disease. Kevin Barnett lost his mother Mary Barnett to uterine sarcoma and John Searing lost his sister Jennifer Searing to ovarian sarcoma. Through Mary and Jenny’s valiant efforts to survive their cancers, their families and friends have accepted the challenge to make a difference in the lives of those currently battling cancer.

The Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation has donated funds to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, The Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Stella Maris Hospice Care, Johns Hopkins, MD Anderson Cancer Center and other innovative organizations. With so many worthy cancer-related causes, the Foundation carefully selects the organizations to receive donations. Our intention is to ensure the most efficient and effective use of funds.
